607.4 Maintenance Planning Guidelines for Fences

These Maintenance planning guidelines apply to both major and minor roads.

Definition The time and expenses incurred for installing and maintaining fences along the roadway, guardrails and end treatments, guardcable and impact attenuator devices for roadside obstacles as well as all costs to maintain concrete traffic barriers, sidewalks and bicycle paths and raised pavement markers.

Purpose To repair, replace and paint chain link fence.

Scheduling As needed.

Recommended Procedure

1. Place traffic control devices as needed.

2. Remove damaged sections.

3. Pull stringline and drive posts.

4. Install top rail or tension cable.

5. Splice fabric to one end of existing fence and stretch fabric.

6. Splice fabric to other end of existing fence.

7. Tie fence to posts and top rail or tension cable.

8. Clean area and remove salvaged material.

9. Remove traffic control devices.

Safety Wear all appropriate Personal Protection Equip (PPE). Refer to Safety Policies, Rules & Regulations-Employee Handbook .
