614.4 Maintenance Planning Guidelines for Drop Inlets and Storm Sewers

These Maintenance planning guidelines apply to major roads.

Code: R316

Purpose To restore drainage by repairing inlet grates, broken inlets and storm sewers.

Scheduling Loose inlet grates should be scheduled as soon as detected. Other repairs as needed when the air and ground temperatures are above 45 º F.

Recommended Equipment

  • Truck
  • Water tank
  • Compressor/breaker
  • Concrete saw
  • Traffic control equipment, as needed

Recommended Material

  • Anchor bolts
  • Concrete
  • Form material
  • Water

Recommended Procedure

1. Place traffic control devices as needed.

2. Remove damaged material, form and reset achors.

3. Pour concrete, cure and remove forms.

4. Replace grate.

5. Remove traffic control devices.

Safety Watch for traffic when near roadway. Wear all appropriate Personal Protection Equip (PPE). Refer to Safety Policies, Rules & Regulations-Employee Handbook .
