Drain basin maintenance is done to effectively maintain control of runoff at bridge ends where drain basins are provided. The work is scheduled anytime it can be accomplished and during routine bridge flushing operations.
Procedures
1. Clean out the existing drain basin.
2. Find pipe outlet and make sure the outflow is clear. If necessary, dig out around the end of the pipe to ensure that water can flow out easily.
3. Flush the drain basin to verify the pipe is not clogged.
4. If the pipe is clogged, it may be easier to convert the pipe to a paved gutter.
