RECENT POLICY CHANGES IN THE EPG | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
MoDOT has made great strides to build a good transportation system and increase taxpayers' trust in its ability to deliver what was promised. Innovative concepts, such as Practical Design and design-build, were used to deliver those commitments and have made MoDOT a leader in the transportation industry. These forward-thinking, innovative concepts are reflected in the ENGINEERING POLICY GUIDE (EPG). This document provides a single reference for all engineering and engineering-related guidance by combining the former Right of Way, Design, Bridge, Construction, Traffic and Maintenance manuals. MediaWiki, the engine behind the Wikipedia on the World Wide Web, is the software delivering the EPG. Millions of hits on the EPG endorse this format to be easy to navigate and pleasing to read. A small HELP ARTICLE is included to assist with helpful hints on how to use the EPG as well as other points of interest.

Precast Prestressed Concrete Panel Forms Design and Details 4/12/12: Guidance in EPG 751.10.2.1, EPG 751.10.2.2 and EPG 751.50 H2b Precast Prestressed Panels was updated to conform with the standard plans. Water Line Installations 4/11/12: EPG 643.3.9.1 Water and Sewer Lines guidance for PE and PVC pipe was revised to reflect the current American Water Works Association's standard language. 4/11/12: New guidance has been provided for change order time adjustments. On a related note, in EPG 101 Standard Forms three QRGs (Change Orders, Change Orders - Time Adjustments, and Subcontracts) were updated. Plastic Wide-Mouth Bottles 4/5/12: EPG 1054.2.4.3 Sample was revised so that plastic wide-mouth bottles will be used as sampling containers. 4/3/12: Construction and Materials has clarified the preparation of an order record. 3/30/12: Guidance on drilled shaft steel casing was updated to be in compliance with Sec 701. Previously, MoDOT always required 1/2" thick casing. A new standard note, E2.29, was added in EPG 751.50 Standard Detailing Notes. Borings on Plan Sheets 3/29/12: EPG 751.5.2 and EPG 751.50 Standard Detailing Notes, Boring Data were updated to reflect the new policy of including all borings on the plan sheets. Work effort is reduced by showing all borings on the plan in the form of pdf files. 3/28/12: Much of the article was updated so that guidance conforms with LRFD practices. EPG 237.9.6.6 File Naming Convention for Addendums 3/21/12: Guidance was clarified to indicate that all plan files included in any addendum must contain the extension "_R00x". Two New Consultant Forms 3/19/12: Two new forms, Figs. 134.1 and 134.2, were added to EPG 134.3 Engineering Professional Services. Project Managers and divisional heads will benefit from knowing that on July 1, 2012 it will be mandatory for these new forms to be filled out by consultants . Engineering Professional Services Dispute Resolution 3/19/12: Guidance for dispute resolution has been updated. EPG 902.5.17 Number of Signal Faces on an Approach 3/12/12: Traffic clarified the guidance by providing additional information on where to install the reflectorized backplates. Updated QRG 3/12/12: "Sample Record General Information" was updated in EPG 101 Standard Forms. 3/6/12: Traffic has updated the TAs to bring policy into compliance with the 2009 MUTCD. EPG 616 Temporary Traffic Control Rewritten for 2009 MUTCD 3/6/12: Traffic has rewritten many of the EPG 616 articles to bring policy into substantial compliance with the 2009 MUTCD. Several articles are new and some former articles have been removed. A useful letter of compliance showing the required use of new signs was also added. Calibration of Bituminous Distributors 3/5/12: The contractor/supplier is now allowed to calibrate bituminous distributor equipment. Headwalls, "Rolled Up and Over" Roadway Fill and Lengthy Exterior Wings 2/27/12: Clarification of guidance for locating headwalls, requiring fill to be rolled up and over culverts and handling long wings due to large skews. Regularly used culvert notes were also added. 2/27/12: Fencing details have been updated in both EPG 751.12.4 and in the Standard Detailing Notes. 2/27/12: EPG 104.13.2 has been updated to reflect current practices. 2/23/12: The TRB document Roundabouts: An Informational Guide, Second Edition is now temporarily considered to be the location selection, design and layout guidance for MoDOT roundabouts. 2/21/12: EPG 130 Value Engineering was generally updated and clarified. EPG 402 Bituminous Surface Leveling and EPG 409 Seal Coat 2/21/12: In EPG 402, the Contract Leveling Course guidelines and templates have been updated. In EPG 409, the Contract Seal Coat guidelines, JSP and templates have been updated.
