Existing bridges at large stream crossings carrying light traffic may be used in place under certain conditions. Such structures may have less than the desired bridge width or loading capacity. Where a location study report does not include a recommendation for the disposition of such structures, the district makes a recommendation, before completing the survey, to the Design Division. Narrow bridges used in place are properly signed with advance warning signs. Guardrail is used at the bridge ends to delineate the width transition.
