This test method covers the procedure for determining the smolder resistance of jute netting.

106.3.2.18.1 Samples

The sample shall consist of a 36 in. specimen by the full width of the roll. A sample will be taken from each shipment.

106.3.2.18.2 Procedure

A test specimen 12 in. by 24 in. shall be cut from the sample and placed on a sheet of 1/4 in. Transite. The sample shall be placed with approximately 20 in. on the Transite and the remainder overhanging the edge. All of the overhanging strands shall be set afire with a laboratory burner. In order for the material to be acceptable, no strand shall burn back more than 12 in. from the edge of the Transite. The test shall be conducted in a location free from drafts.
