The First sentence in 106.4.2.6 should be modified to allow for the Contractor/Supplier to calibrate the equipment. Recomened working is shown below. See supporting data below:

Current wording: "106.4.2.6 Bituminous distributors. The calibration of all distributors will be performed by district Construction and Materials personnel."

Proposed wording: "106.4.2.6 Bituminous distributors. The calibration of all distributors will be approved by the engineer prior to use."

Dennis and I were thinking the same thing. That is that the distributor needs to be calibrated but not necessarily by us. As with the plants, the contractor should have the calibration performed and have it available for our inspection.

I thought we had direction awhile ago not to perform distributor calibrations anymore? I received a request for the old forms we used when we were calibrating them, and followed up with checking the EPG and Spec book.
