This article establishes procedures for Laboratory testing, approving and reporting Type l-D and Type 2 Class A liquid membrane-forming compounds, waterproof paper and white polyethylene sheeting suitable for curing portland cement concrete. Refer to Sec 1055 for MoDOT’s specifications.

1055.4.1 Procedure

Preliminary Laboratory approval for Type l-D or Type 2 Class A liquid membrane-forming compounds is based on the following procedure:

(a) Manufacturer shall furnish a one-quart (one liter) sample. Laboratory tests on this sample shall be as set forth in AASHTO M148.
(b) Manufacturer shall furnish certification and guarantee for a Type 2 Class A white pigmented curing compound as required in Sec 1055.2.1.
(c) Upon completion of Laboratory tests and receipt of satisfactory manufacturer's certification, the supplier will be notified by letter whether the material is approved for use. Each approved brand and the manufacturer will be added to Concrete Curing Material Pre-Acceptance List.

Samples from each lot of Type l-D - clear or transparent, or Type 2 Class A - white pigmented, materials destined for MoDOT projects shall be tested according to methods set forth in AASHTO M148. Reflectance tests shall be determined by the manufacturer in accordance with AASHTO M148 and furnished to the Department in compliance with Sec 1055.2.1.

Original test data and calculations on liquid membrane-forming compounds shall be recorded in Laboratory workbooks. Test results shall be recorded through SiteManager for the appropriate type.

Waterproof paper shall be tested for Moisture Loss and Tensile Strength in accordance with the methods set forth in AASHTO M171.

White polyethylene sheeting for curing portland cement concrete shall be tested for moisture loss, thickness, tensile strength, and elongation in accordance with the methods set forth in AASHTO M171 or PS 17-69 as applicable.

1055.4.2 Sample Report

The sample record shall be completed in SiteManager, as described in Automation Sec 3510, and shall indicate acceptance, qualified acceptance, or rejection. Appropriate remarks, as described in Reporting Test Results, are to be included in the remarks to clarify conditions of acceptance or rejection. Test results shall be reported on the appropriate templates under the Tests tab.
