Repairing settlements or sunken slabs with bituminous patches or decks should be resorted to only where the settlements cannot be raised to a uniform grade by mudjacking; or when the whole section of pavement is in such poor condition that a deck is warranted. The material should be an asphaltic concrete mix or high type plant mix if available. If not available, a road mix will be satisfactory but it must be premixed off the roadway and the asphalt content controlled closely as rich mixture decks will push and roll when placed on concrete surfaces. All major decking work must be approved by the Maintenance Division.
