This article establishes procedures for inspecting, acceptance and reporting of corrugated metallic-coated steel pipe underdrain. Refer to Sec 1022 for MoDOT’s specifications.

(a) Magnetic or electronic gauge, reading range 0-40 mils (0-1000 μm).
(b) Micrometer capable of measuring to 0.0001 in. (0.00254 mm) and accurate to within at least 0.001 in. (0.0254 mm).
(c) Rule with suitable gradations to accurately measure the material to be inspected.
1022.2.1 Corrugated Metallic-Coated Steel Pipe Underdrain
Corrugated metallic-coated steel underdrain is to be accepted in accordance with Sec 1022.2.
1022.2.3 Identification Markings
Pipe is to be marked as described in EPG 1020.2.3 Identification Markings for Steel Sheet.
1022.2.4 Random Sampling
Random samples are to be taken as described in EPG 1020.2.4 Random Sampling of Steel Sheet.
1022.2.5 Field Inspection
Field inspection shall be performed in accordance with and at the frequency specified in EPG 1020.2.5 Field Inspection.
1022.2.7 Repair of Damaged Coating
Units on which the metallic coating has been damaged shall be repaired in as described in EPG 1020.2.7.2 Repair of Damaged Coating.
1022.3 Sample Record
Sample ID’s shall be assigned and sample records shall be created in as described in EPG 1020.3 Sample Record.
1022.4 Laboratory Testing Guidelines for Sec 1022
This article establishes procedures for Laboratory testing, reporting and accepting corrugated metallic-coated steel pipe underdrain material.
Laboratory tests to be performed on the sample are designated by the inspector in the remarks area of SiteManager. Normally, the only Laboratory tests required are weight of coating on each sample and chemical analysis approximately once a year. If two samples from different districts are submitted for chemical analysis within a period of one month from the same manufacturer and base metal, only one sample need be tested.
1022.4.1.1 Chemical Tests
The procedure for determining weight of coating shall be according to AASHTO T65 for zinc coated and T213 for aluminum coated. Mass of coating shall be reported as ounces per square foot (kg/sq meter), double exposed surface. Chemical composition of the base metal shall be determined according to the methods set forth in EPG 1020.8.1.1 Chemical Tests. Original test data and calculations shall be recorded in Laboratory workbooks. Test results shall then be recorded through SiteManager.
1022.4.1.2 Physical Tests
When requested, gage or thickness shall be determined with a micrometer graduated in increments of 0.0001 in. (.00254 mm). A minimum of five thickness measurements are to be made on the tangents of corrugation at least 3/8 in. (9.5 mm) from the edge of metal. Both the minimum and average thickness results shall be reported to 0.001 in. (.0254 mm). All test results shall be recorded through SiteManager.
1022.4.2 Sample Record
The sample record shall be completed in SiteManager, as described in Automation Section 3510, and shall indicate acceptance, qualified acceptance, or rejection. Appropriate remarks, as described in EPG 106.9 Reporting Test Results, are to be included in the remarks to clarify conditions of acceptance or rejection. Laboratory and field test results shall be reported in the appropriate templates under the Tests tab.
