Engineering Policy Guide.jpg
WELCOME
RECENT POLICY CHANGES IN THE EPG
MoDOT has made great strides to build a good transportation system and increase taxpayers' trust in its ability to deliver what was promised. Innovative concepts, such as practical design and design-build, were used to deliver those commitments and have made MoDOT a leader in the transportation industry.

These forward-thinking, innovative concepts are reflected in the ENGINEERING POLICY GUIDE (EPG). This document provides a single reference for all engineering and engineering-related guidance by combining the former Right of Way, Design, Bridge, Construction, Traffic and Maintenance manuals.

MediaWiki, the engine behind the Wikipedia on the World Wide Web, is the software delivering the EPG. Millions of hits on the EPG endorse this format to be easy to navigate and pleasing to read. A small HELP ARTICLE is included to assist with helpful hints on how to use the EPG as well as other points of interest.

Automated Flagger Assistance Devices (AFAD) and Portable Signal Flagging Device (PSFD)

5/4/10:EPG 616.23 now presents AFAD and PSFD information.

WO20-3a

5/4/10: Both the WO20-3 (ROAD CLOSED AHEAD) and WO20-3a (ROAD CLOSED XXX FT) are now used with detour signing after the ROAD CLOSED XX MILES AHEAD sign and before the ROAD CLOSED sign.

EPG 942 Approved Products List

4/26/10: EPG 942 has been re-titled and slightly updated. The article's former title was EPG 942 Signal and Lighting Equipment and Approved Products List.

New Pavement Marking Direction

4/19/10: Nonstandard JSPs for MODOT's new pavement marking direction have been made available in EPG 620.

EPG 751 LRFD Bridge Design Guidelines

4/15/10: The popular article EPG 751 has been re-titled, "LRFD Bridge Design Guidelines".

Pile Driving Inspection

3/26/10: Form B-708R2 does not need to be submitted to Bridge Division so long as it is retained on file.

3R Rural and Urban Cross-Slopes

3/26/10: The cross-slopes in the 3R rural and urban design criteria figures in EPG 128 Conceptual Studies were updated to reflect the current practise of matching existing cross-slopes.

These changes help Bridge personnel use proper names for foundation units and show the relationship between loads and resistance.

EPG 949.2 Speed Limit Guidelines

2/11/10: Traffic has re-titled and updated its Prevailing Speed Determination information.

Traffic Safety

2/11/10: New Safety Program Guidelines and Road Safety Assessment (RSA) guidelines have been combined with existing guidance to produce the new EPG 907 Traffic Safety.
