Current General Services Specifications (MGS) By Subject

This article establishes procedures for inspecting, acceptance and reporting of polymer-coated corrugated metal culvert pipe and pipe arches. Refer to Sec 1027 for MoDOT’s specifications.

For Laboratory testing and sample reporting procedures, refer to EPG 1027.4 Laboratory Testing Guidelines for Sec 1027.

1027.1 Apparatus

(a) Magnetic or electronic gauge, reading range 0-40 mils (0-1000 μm).

(b) Micrometer capable of measuring to 0.0001 in. (0.00254 mm) and accurate to within at least 0.001 in. (0.0254 mm).

(c) Rule with suitable gradations to accurately measure the material to be inspected.

(d) The Corrugated Metal Pipe (CMP) Inspection Guide.

1027.2 Procedure

1027.2.1 Polymer-Coated Corrugated Metal Culvert Pipe and Pipe-Arches

Polymer-coated corrugated metal culvert pipe and pipe arch is to be accepted in accordance with Sec 1027.2.

1027.2.2 Material

The pipe shall be in accordance Sec 1020 and Sec 1027. The polymer material shall be in accordance with AASHTO M 245.

1027.2.3 Identification Markings

Pipe is to be marked in as described in 1020.2.3 Identification Markings for Steel Sheet.

1027.2.4 Random Sampling

Random samples are to be taken in as described in EPG 1020.2.4 Random Sampling of Steel Sheet. Random samples of polymer coating are to be taken as described in AASHTO M 245.

Samples for determination of coating thickness may be taken from fabricated pipe.

1027.2.5 Field Inspection

Field inspection shall be performed in accordance with and at the frequency specified in EPG 1020.2.5 Field Inspection.

1027.2.6 Fabrication

Fabrication of polymer coated corrugated metal culvert pipe and pipe-arch shall be in accordance with Sec 1020 and AASHTO M 245.

1027.2.7 Repair of Damaged Coating

Units on which the metallic coating has been damaged shall be repaired as described in EPG 1020.2.7.2 Repair of Damaged Coating. Polymer coating shall be repaired as described in AASHTO M 245.

1027.3 Sample Record

Sample ID’s shall be assigned and sample records shall be created in accordance with 1020.3 Sample Record.

1027.4 Laboratory Testing Guidelines for Sec 1027

This article establishes procedures for Laboratory testing and reporting samples of nonreinforced concrete culvert, storm drain and sewer pipe.

1027.4.1 Procedure

Tests consist of absorption only. Samples shall be tested in accordance with AASHTO T280. Test results and calculations shall be recorded through AASHTOWARE Project (AWP).

1027.4.2 Sample Record

The sample record shall be completed in AWP, as described in AWP MA Sample Record, General, and shall indicate acceptance, qualified acceptance, or rejection. Appropriate remarks, as described in EPG 106.20 Reporting, are to be included in the sample record to clarify conditions of acceptance or rejection. Test results shall be reported on the appropriate templates under the Tests tab.
