MGS Information
Current General Services Specifications (MGS) By Subject

This article establishes procedures for inspecting, acceptance and reporting of reinforced concrete elliptical culvert, storm drain and sewer pipe. Refer to Sec 1034 for MoDOT’s specifications.

1034.1 Apparatus

(a) Rule with suitable graduations to accurately measure the material to be inspected.

(b) Weather-resistant marking materials.

(c) The Reinforced Concrete Culvert Pipe (RCP) Inspection Guide.

1034.2 Procedure

All requirements for this pipe are specified in AASHTO M 207 except the material requirements specified in Sec 1034. The basis of acceptance are specified in AASHTO M 207 and the procedures for inspecting and reporting shall be as described in EPG 1026 Reinforced Concrete Culvert Pipe.

Procedures for submitting special or modified designs are described in 1026 Reinforced Concrete Culvert Pipe.

1034.3 Report (Records)

All reports of materials and inspections are to be made in accordance with EPG 1026 Reinforced Concrete Culvert Pipe.

1034.4 Laboratory Testing Guidelines for Sec 1034

This artilce establishes procedures for Laboratory testing and reporting samples of reinforced concrete elliptical culvert, storm drain and sewer pipe.

1034.4.1 Procedure

Tests consist of compression and absorption.

Compression Test. Samples may consist of two standard concrete cylinders'made in accordance with AASHTO T23 or one core drilled from the wall of the pipe in accordance with AASHTO T280.

a) Concrete cylinders shall be tested in accordance with AASHTO T22. Test results and calculations shall be recorded through SiteManager.
b) Drilled cores shall be tested in accordance with AASHTO T280. Test results and calculations shall be recorded through SiteManager.

Absorption Test. Samples shall be tested in accordance with AASHTO T280. Test results and calculations shall be recorded through SiteManager.

1034.2 Sample Record

All sample records shall be completed in SiteManager, as described in Automation Sec 3510. Test results shall be reported on the appropriate templates under the Tests tab. Compression test results for concrete cylinders shall include the notation in remarks, "Specimens submitted for compressive strength at the age indicated." Compression test results for concrete cores shall include the notation in remarks, "Sample submitted for the determinations indicated." Absorption test results for concrete cores or pieces from the wall of the section shall indicate acceptance, qualified acceptance or rejection. Appropriate remarks, as described in EPG 106.20 Reporting, are to be included in the remarks to clarify conditions of acceptance or rejection.
