Category:1111 Herbicides, Soil Sterilants, Surfactants and Grass, Weed and Brush Killers
This article establishes procedures for the inspection and reporting of herbicides, soil sterilants, surfactants and grass, weed and brush killers. The requirements are set forth in the bid requests issued by MoDOT.
Field inspection shall consist of comparing the label analysis as shown on the container of each lot with the requirements set forth in the bid request. Care shall be taken to ensure that the label analysis shown by the manufacturer matches the requirements in the bid request. If there is any deviation, contact the Chemical Laboratory for technical assistance.
Samples are only to be submitted when requested by the Chemical Laboratory. Sampling and shipping instructions will be included in any request for samples.
The report shall include all the pertinent information, such as: specification designation, type of material, complete label analysis, lot or batch number, purchase order number, source, manufacturer's name and address, destination and quantity represented. The report is to indicate acceptance or rejection. Appropriate remarks, as described in 106.9.2 Remarks are to be included in the report to clarify conditions of acceptance or rejection. Test results shall be reported in SiteManager.
1111.3 Laboratory Testing Guidelines
This article establishes procedures for Laboratory testing and reporting samples of herbicides, soil sterilants, surfactants and grass, weed and brush killers. The requirements are set forth in the bid request issued by MoDOT.
Most herbicide materials will be accepted on the basis of field inspection. Samples submitted to the Laboratory will be evaluated by visual inspection, label analysis verification and qualitative identification by infrared spectrophotometry. 2,4-D weed killer may be tested for total chlorine content by the Parr peroxide bomb method.
Original test data, calculations, and Laboratory findings shall be recorded in Laboratory workbooks. Test results shall then be recorded through SiteManager.
1111.3.2 Sample Record
The sample record shall be completed in SiteManager, as described in Automation Sec 3510, and shall indicate acceptance, qualified acceptance, or rejection. Appropriate remarks, as described in 106.9 Reporting Test Results, are to be included in the remarks to clarify conditions of acceptance or rejection. Test results shall be reported on the appropriate templates under the Tests tab.
