1021.2 Procedure
1021.2.1 Bituminous-Coated Corrugated Metal Culvert Pipe
Bituminous-coated corrugated metal culvert pipe and pipe arches are to be accepted in accordance with Sec 1021.2. The basis of acceptance for the bituminous material will be in accordance with AASHTO M 190, except acceptance may be based on samples obtained from storage or from the dipping tanks.
1021.2.2 Material
The pipe shall be in accordance with Sec 1020 and Sec 1024. The bituminous material shall be in accordance with AASHTO M 190.
1021.2.3 Identification Markings
Pipe is to be marked as described in EPG 1020.2.3 Identification Markings for Steel Sheet.
1021.2.4 Random Sampling
Random samples of steel sheet are to be taken as described in EPG 1020.2.4 Random Sampling of Steel Sheet. Random samples of bituminous coating are to be taken in accordance with AASHTO M 190.
1021.2.5 Field Inspection
Field inspection shall be performed in accordance with and at the frequency specified in EPG 1020.2.5 Field Inspection.
1021.2.6 Fabrication
Fabrication of bituminous-coated corrugated metal culvert pipe and pipe arches shall be in accordance with Sec 1020 and AASHTO M 190.
1021.2.7 Lift Hooks or Loops
Lift hooks or loops, if agreed upon by the engineer and manufacturer, may be attached to pipe and pipe arches to facilitate handling.
1021.2.8 Repair of Damaged Bituminous Coating
Bituminous coating damaged or displaced during delivery or installation shall be repaired as directed the engineer by application of hot bituminous material of the same type as that originally used. Care shall be taken to avoid damage to the bituminous materials during heating.
1021.3 Sample Record
Sample IDs shall be assigned and sample records shall be created in accordance with EPG 1020.3 Sample Record.
1021.4 Laboratory Testing Guidelines for Sec 1021
This article To establish procedures for Laboratory testing and reporting samples of bituminous material for coating corrugated metal culvert pipe and pipe-arches.
1021.4.1 Procedure
Bituminous material shall be tested according to AASHTO M190. Original test data and calculations shall be recorded in Laboratory workbooks. Test results shall then be recorded through AASHTOWARE Project (AWP).
1021.4.2 Sample Record
The sample record shall be completed in AASHTOWARE Project (AWP) in accordance with AWP MA Sample Record, General and shall indicate acceptance, qualified acceptance or rejection. Appropriate remarks, as described in EPG 106.20 Reporting, are to be included in the remarks to clarify conditions of acceptance or rejection. Test results shall be reported on the appropriate templates under the Tests tab.
