RECENT POLICY CHANGES IN THE EPG
Sgt. Mike Quilty presents an award to Maintenance Supervisor Mike Lewis and the Mound City Maintenance Facility crew. First Row, l-r: Ed Hunziger, Chris Davison, Bret Bailey, Dusty Herron, Darin Meyer, Tim Hays. Second Row, l-r: J.R. Rother, Blake Nauman, Wayne Markt, Allan Markt, Bill Gallagher, Cody Moyer. (Not pictured: Donald Medsker, Bill Keiffer.) The plaque thanked the crew for their hard work to help locate and recover the body of Trooper Fred Guthrie during last year's flood. Guthrie was recovered Jan. 12, 2012 after several months of searching.
The second phase of the new Rte. 364 (Page Ave. Extension) opened to traffic on Aug. 30 in St. Peters, two months ahead of the original schedule. The 3-mile stretch completed the second phase of the Page Ave. Extension and cost $101 million, of that $75 million for construction.

MoDOT has made great strides to build a good transportation system and increase taxpayers' trust in its ability to deliver what was promised. Innovative concepts, such as Practical Design and design-build, were used to deliver those commitments and have made MoDOT a leader in the transportation industry.

These forward-thinking, innovative concepts are reflected in the ENGINEERING POLICY GUIDE (EPG). This document provides a single reference for all engineering and engineering-related guidance by combining the former Right of Way, Design, Bridge, Construction, Traffic and Maintenance manuals.

MediaWiki, the engine behind the Wikipedia on the World Wide Web, is the software delivering the EPG. Millions of hits on the EPG endorse this format to be easy to navigate and pleasing to read. A small HELP ARTICLE is included to assist with helpful hints on how to use the EPG as well as other points of interest.

Central District Traffic Engineer Trent Brooks, right, explains to reporters the benefits of two new j-turns on Rte. 63 between Jefferson City and Columbia. Following the project briefing, media representatives were invited to try out the new j-turns before they opened to traffic on Aug. 29.
Neosho Senior Construction Inspector Marvin Morris visits with employees at a convenience store to go over traffic pattern changes and other details of the Range Line Rd./I-44 Diverging Diamond Interchange project in Joplin. The store was one of many businesses he visited along Range Line Rd. shortly before construction began Aug. 13.

Bridge Clearance Report Form (C-239A)

9/10/12: This form has been updated in both EPG 101 Standard Forms and EPG 760 General Construction Inspection for Structures.

Erosion & Sediment Control Plans

9/7/12: EPG 127.25.4.1 Storm Water Regulations has been revised to comply with the land disturbance permit. A note must be added to erosion and sediment control plans identifying all the primary receiving waters within a project's limits and/or within one mile of the jobsite.

Major Highways Map

9/7/12: Transportation Planning has updated this important document in EPG 822.6 Definitions for Roadside Vegetation Management and numerous other articles. This map specifies roadways for many critical procedures.

EPG 1020.2.5.1 Mill and Factory Inspection

9/6/12: Guidance was revised to correct mil thicknesses of coating to harmonize with ASTM A924.

EPG 230.2.10 Bridge Considerations

9/5/12: The intent of design exception was clarified in the guidance for bridge considerations of vertical alignment.

Cost Estimate Guide for Rural Preliminary Design

9/5/12: This document has been updated with current figures in EPG 104.7 Estimates.

ADA Checklist

9/4/12: The ADA Checklist was updated, replacing the old "ADA Post-Construction Checklist". The new ADA Checklist presents expanded information to comply with the US Access Board's PROWAG 2005 and 2010 ADA/ABA standards.

Value Engineering

9/4/12: EPG 130 Value Engineering was clarified to bring guidance in line with nationwide VE standards.

Three Updated QRGs

8/31/12: Contractor Pay Estimates, Daily Work Reports and Subcontracts were updated.

Navigable Waters Insurance Protection

8/30/12: Navigable Waters Insurance Protection guidance was added to help Resident Engineers understand when this special type of insurance is required and what is needed to verify coverage.

Prime Consultants and Subconsultants

8/29/12: In EPG 134.1.3 Consultant Qualification, guidance was clarified for qualification.

Anchor Bolts Used on Weathering Steel Bridges

8/28/12: Bridge has clarified some the H3c and d Bearings Standard Detailing Notes to change the requirement for anchor bolts used on weathering steel bridges to coated with inorganic zinc primer. Also, in numerous notes and figures, especially in EPG 751.11.3 Details, "rod" was changed to "bolt", as in "anchor bolt".

Full Depth Pavement Repair Dowel Bars

8/28/12: New guidance instructs designers calculating quantities for full depth repairs that each dowel bar is to be counted separately as a pay item, regardless of whether being drilled into a slab or placed as part of a dowel basket with other bars.

Links to Free Web-based NHI Training

8/27/12: Links to NHI's Transportation Curriculum Coordination Council courses are now available at EPG 106.18 Technician Certification Program.

Overcoating Existing Steel Standard Detailing Notes

8/24/12: Three paint notes were modified, primarily revising an existing note that prime coat shall not be required for calcium sulfonate overcoating projects.

Two Updated QRGs

8/23/12: Change Orders – Value Engineering and Job Order Contracts were updated.

Widening and Repair of Bridges

8/23/12: Bridge has updated numerous figures in EPG 751.40.2.4.1 Cast-In-Place Deck With (and Without) an Existing Wearing Surface, Hydro Demolition to match the standard plans.
